Popgroup national schedules of fertility, mortality and migration

POPGROUP data workbooks contain a 'schedule' sheet, with demographic rates for each single year of age (fertility rates on the fertility workbook, male and female mortality rates on the mortality workbook, and male and female migration rates on the migration workbooks). These schedules are used to compute initial numbers of births, and of deaths and migrants by each single year of age, which are adjusted or scaled by all other information provided by the user.

Since February 2007, POPGROUP is no longer distributed with UK standard schedules of demographic rates already inserted in its files. The software is now free of UK-focused data. It does not require a different installation for each country of the UK. When using POPGROUP for countries outside the UK, users will find their own standard schedules of demographic rates, or use those for the UK as described below.

The MODEL_SETUP.xls file now includes an extra entry box to (optionally) name a file containing the latest UK statistical agency standard schedules of single year of age demographic rates. The appropriate file may be downloaded from the list at the foot of this page. The skeleton input files produced on setting up a model will now be filled with these schedules. They may be edited at a later date as with any POPGROUP input data.

If a model has already been set up, new standard schedules from the statistical agency data files may be inserted using a new routine provided with the software, ‘Get_Standard_Rates_PG.xls' (see February 2007 fixes).

Mortality: age-sex specific trend of future mortality rates. For use as differentials on POPGROUP ‘All groups’ sheet.

The files below provide national fertility and mortality schedules within the UK, taken from the most recent projections released by the Government Actuaries Department, and internal and external migration schedules derived from the census. Each is an excel file of approximately 525Kb.
