I joined CCSR in 1996 with a background in geography and demography. I initially worked as a research fellow on a number of census and survey related projects, but have increasingly focussed on the development of teaching and learning. I teach quantitative methods to undergraduate and postgraduate students in the School of Social Sciences, and have held teaching director posts at discipline and School level (I am currently director of Undergraduate Studies for Social Statistics). I have keen research interests in making quantitative methods more accessible to students with non-quantitative backgrounds, (most recently via a project aimed at increasing the use of survey data in undergraduate dissertations). My substantive research interests include the demography of minority ethnic populations in the UK and fertility transition in developing countries
