PhD Project:
Exploring the Post-Childbirth Employment Behaviour of Women Who Were Self-Employed During Pregnancy
Biographical Information:
I arrived at CCSR in 2005 shortly after gaining a BSc in Psychology from Manchester Metropolitan University. My undergraduate training provided me with primarily qualitative research skills that I subsequently used when working as a research assistant in the months following graduation, for example, I carried out participant observations for a project that was evaluating a series of participatory arts practices within Manchester communities that aimed to address issues of mental health and social inclusion. My interest in women’s labour market participation stems from my undergraduate work where I used semi-structured interviews to look at the relationship between social capital and the employment decisions made by mother’s of young children. This interest has developed in recent years alongside my quantitative skills that were substantially improved after gaining an MSc in Social Research Methods and Statistics here at CCSR.
