Distribution of the SARs

Distribution of the SARs overseas

At the moment the SARs cannot be distributed outside the UK. The possibility of providing overseas academics with remote access to the SARs is being considered by the ESRC and further information will be made available through the newsletter.

For overseas academics who wish to use the SARs, there are two possible routes:

1.  To visit a UK academic institution. Overseas visiting academics can obtain access to the SARs on a similar basis to UK academics. This allows them to use the data for academically-funded research during the period of their visit. It is important to note that they are not able to take a copy of the data with them when they leave.

2.  If a member of a UK higher education institution wishes to work on a collaborative basis with another member of an overseas academic institution, then analyses on the SARs can be conducted by the UK academic. However, data files cannot be sent to the overseas collaborator; only analyses and tables that might the draft of a paper can be sent abroad.
