Only registered parties
may use the SARs, registered
users can get access to the data here.
Registration for End User Licence
The End User Licence provides access to both 1991 SAR files and to the 2001 Individual SAR and SAM
Registration and data access
arrangements differ for academic, non-academic and overseas users
- Academic Users are based at institutions of further
or higher education in the UK. Academic registration
is available through Census.ac.uk.
- Non-academic users work within commercial or non-commercial
organisations outside academia. Details for registration are available here.
- Overseas users have access to the 1991 and 2001 Individual SAR, the 1991 Household SAR and the 2001 Small Area Microdata. Details of access conditions and forms are available here.
Files under special licences
- A separate registration system
is in operation for the 2001 Special Licence Household SAR
- Users who exhaust the potential
of the End User Licence and Special Licence Household SARs may be interested in
the Controlled Access Microdata Samples (CAMS). These Individual and Household files are managed by ONS and can only be used at three ONS locations.
Access for registered users
The primary dissemination method
for the SARs will be through web-based exploration and download for academic
users and CD-ROM for non-academic users. A description of the various
methods of accessing the data is available on our modes
of access page.
