Density is based on the number of residents per room: that is, the number of residents in a household divided by the number of rooms available for to that household. This variable is comparable to the similar variable in the 1991 SARs and is an indicator of overcrowding. It divides household size (excluding students away during termtime) by number of rooms and thus represents the number of residents per room in the household
Derived from:
norhuk (number of rooms) sizhuk (household size) Household size excluding students away during term-time Range 00-30 density = when norhuk = "XX" or norhuk or sizhuk = "00" then "X" else when sizhuk/norhuk <=0.5 then "1" when sizhuk/norhuk >0.5 and sizhuk/norhuk <=0.75 then "2" when sizhuk/norhuk >0.75 and sizhuk/norhuk <=1 then "3" when sizhuk/norhuk >1 and sizhuk/norhuk <=1.5 then "4" else "5" (sizhuk/norhuk >1.5)
