Meeting user needs for small area microdata
September 1999 - September 2000

The project is based at CCSR at the University of Manchester as part of the ESRC/JISC Census Development Programme.

In consultation with a wide range of census users, the project is researching the scientific case for releasing small are microdata (SAM) from the 2001 census.  SAM, which would be additional to the existing Individual and Household SARs, would provide geographical detail below the level of the district, but with less detail provided on individual level characteristics to ensure confidentiality.
