Description

The unit will explore the derivation and use of simple recodes (based on regrouping categories), as well as introducing more complex methods for deriving new variables.

Objectives

• understand the purpose of recoding in data analysis using microdata
• be able to define simple recodes based on regrouping of existing categories
• be able to define more complex derived variables using more than one variable
