All users who have received POPGROUP v4 before this date should save the following files, overwriting existing files of the same name. They fix minor errors to enable full functioning of the software:
Save in ...\1. POPGROUP v4.0\PGSysfiles\:
POPGROUP_Forecasts.xla and POPGROUP_ForecastsAutoenabled.xla, replacing the files of the same names. These include a correction to the mortality calculations which will slightly alter the distribution of deaths to individual ages when the user provides counts of deaths by age and sex, and make these consistent with output on the ‘dump’ file.
Save in ...\1. POPGROUP v4.0\:
PGCompare.xls, replacing the file of the same name. This ensures comparison of projection results from v3 and v4.
6 March 2014
Two minor enhancements which are worth downloading by all users who have received POPGROUP v4.0 or Derived Foreasts before this date.
Save in ...\1. POPGROUP v4.0\PGSysfiles\:
POPGROUP_Validation.xla, replacing the file of the same name.
This will avoid a crash when repeatedly validating a fertility file.
Save in ...\2.DF\:
DFCompare.xls, replacing the file of the same name.
This will allow comparison of outputs from more than one model of the same areas. For example a previous official forecast may be compared with the current official forecast, when the relevant output files are copied to one folder. This brings DF up to speed with the improved functionality of PGCompare in POPGROUP version 4.
Following the release of POPGROUP v4.0 a few minor issues with the software have been identified. There are a total of six files that have been updated in order to fix the problems: 5 POPGROUP system files and the DFSetup file. The latter is applicable only for those who are DF users. The former are only applicable to those who have installed POPGROUP v4.0.
Click on each file in turn and 'Save as...' in the indicated location: each time allow the new file to overwrite the existing one:
Save in ...\1. POPGROUP v4.0\PGSysfiles\Templates:
Save in ...\1. POPGROUP v4.0\PGSysfiles:
Save in ...\2. DF\:DFSetup.xls
None of the issues stopped the programmes working but some functionality of the software was incomplete and is enabled by your downloading these fixes.
A new version of the DFSupply template, to allow use of the three housing variables that link households to dwellings - vacancy rates, second homes and sharing households, rather than one overall households/dwellings ratio. Click on this link DFSupply_temp.xls and save in your \POPGROUPSysfiles\ folder, allowing the old version to be replaced.
When creating a new POPGROUP model, this file will be used to create the DFSupply skeleton file for the user's areas or Groups. To use with an existing model, rerun the Model_Setup file that produced the model, without change: this will refresh the skeleton files. For usage of the DFSupply file, see the Derived Forecasts manual, Section 9.3. The fix does not affect the use of the file with one overall households/dwellings ratio, nor its use for conversion between jobs and the labour force. It simply allows the use of the option for three housing variables, which previously had erroneous default values and could not be validated.
A small glitch with the POPGROUP utility to compare forecasts, means that the heading on its 'Notes' page always referred to Derbyshire. Click on this link Comparison_summ.xls and save in your \POPGROUPSysfiles\ folder, allowing the old version to be replaced. To use with an existing model, you will also have to rerun the Model_Setup file that produced the model, without change: this will refresh the skeleton files, including Comparison_summ.
March 2012 :
A new version of a program file fixes a small inconsistency between the POPGROUP constraints and the resulting POPGROUP forecast when rates in a DFSupply file change over time. Click on this link: POPGROUPforecasts_program21.xla and save in your \POPGROUPSysfiles\ folder, allowing the old version to be replaced.
October 2011: fixes for all users
Fixes to POPGROUP v3.0, Derived Forecasts, and POPGROUP v3.1 DF compatible. These downloads will especially fix glitches that have occurred for users of Excel2007 and Excel2010, but also include some small fixes for users of earlier Excel versions. For details and extra tips for installation, open this Guide.
For users of POPGROUP v3.0, download this zipped file to your main POPGROUP folder (the one above \POPGROUPSysfiles\), and unzip all files to the same folder ('here'). It will automatically overwrite files in that folder and in \POPGROUPSysfiles\. PG v3.0 - upgrade October 06 2011.zip.
For users of POPGROUP v3.1 DF compatible, download this zipped file to your main POPGROUP folder (the one above \POPGROUPSysfiles\), and unzip all files to the same folder ('here'). It will automatically overwrite files in that folder and in \POPGROUPSysfiles\. PG v3.1 - upgrade October 06 2011.zip.
For users of Derived Forecasts, download this zipped file to your main DF folder (the one above \DFSysFiles\), and unzip all files to the same folder ('here'). It will automatically overwrite files in that folder and in \DFSysFiles\. DF - upgrade October 06 2011.zip.
POPGROUP. A new version of the module POPGROUPval_bk.xla is available to download, to allow for more than 50,000 in migrants. Please click on above link and save the file to your Popgroup system folder, over-writing the previous version.
POPGROUP, HOUSEGROUP, LABGROUP. A selection of files are now available which corrects various problems created when having 40 population groups (maximum allowed). Please download each file and save to the relevant programs' system files folder, overwriting the existing versions:
HOUSEGROUP. A fix is available which corrects the following problem: If you have a Housegroup model with more than 30 population groups, and you want to produce a chart of fewer than 30 the program will produce an error report, and no chart. This amended file solves this issue. Please download Chart_Forms.xla, save it to your housegroup system files folder allowing the previous version to be overwritten.
POPGROUP. A fix is available which corrects a problem occuring when inputting TFR/SMRs for groups. Instead of using the entered rates, the software had reverted to using the standard rate. This has now been corrected. Please download POPGROUPforecasts_program21.xla and put it in the system files folder overwriting the previous version.
POPGROUP. A fix is available which corrects a problem occuring when creating the reporter file. It replaces the fix listed below which only partially solved the problem. Please download POPGROUPscenario_temp21.xls and put it in the system files folder overwriting the previous version.
POPGROUP. A fix is available which corrects an overflow problem causing during a housing led projection where number of dwellings have been input. Please download POPGROUPforecasts_program21.xla and put it in the system files folder overwriting the previous version.
HOUSEGROUP. A fix is available which corrects an error occuring when creating charts when there are a large amount of groups but each chart must be saved. Please download HHReport_temp.xls and Chart_Forms.xla put them in the systems files folder overwriting the previous version.
POPGROUP. A fix is available which corrects a problem sometimes encountered when creating a reporter file in which part of the path of the files it uses was incorrectly input into the reporter workbook. Download POPGROUPscenario_temp21.xls and put it into the system files folder overwriting the previous version.
HOUSEGROUP. A fix is available in order that on the reporter file, you can change the Quick Chart year without unprotecting the sheet. Please download the new HHReport_temp.xls file and save it to your HHSysfiles folder, overwriting the previous version of this file.
POPGROUP. A cosmetic change was required in order to avoid confusion which has arisen since the new GAD files have been made available. Please download the new MODEL_SETUP.xls file and overwrite the previous version of this file.
POPGROUP. A problem has been found with the module shown below when using a constraint file. This error only causes a miscalculation if the group of single age constraints in the all groups sheet covers a different set of years to the Population Group's five year age constraints, so in all probability it has never occured before! Please download the file POPGROUPforecasts_program21.xla, drop it in your POPGROUPSysfiles folder overwriting the previous version.
POPGROUP. A problem has been found with the previous new module dated 24/8/07, the SMRs were not calculated after 2005/06. This has now been rectified. Please Download the new version of this file: POPGROUPforecasts_program21a.xla, drop it in your POPGROUPSysfiles folder overwriting the version with the date 24/8/07 so that the date shown is 29/08/07. This will correct the fault. The previous fertility fault mentioned below will also be fixed.
POPGROUP. A problem has been found whereby when inputting both Fertility differentials with age and providing Total Fertility Rates, the Total Fertility Rates have not been used as they should be. This occurred when the differentials were not greyed out. However the problem has been fixed by an amendment to the following module.
POPGROUP. If you run a popgroup scenario with housegroup where the population start year is earlier than the housegroup one you may get an error. Download this file POPGROUPforecasts_program21.xla, drop it in your POPGROUPSysfiles folder, allow it to overwrite the previous version and this will allow you to have different start years. Even if you have not encountered this error, it is advised to obtain this replacement module. It will not affect the running of the software.
HOUSEGROUP. An update of the GetGovtHHData routine uploads data from 2004-based household projections for sub-national areas of England. Files for users of version 3 distributed before March 2007 are available here.
POPGROUP. The standard schedules of single year of age demographic rates are now not included in skeleton files unless specified when setting up the model, or loaded using a new routine. This allows one POPGROUP installation with no UK-centric data. The revised files are:
• MODEL_SETUP.xls Save outside your POPGROUPSysfiles folder, it will replace the existing file of the same name.
• Get_Standard_Rates_PG.xls Save outside your POPGROUPSysfiles folder.
• PG_Update_Feb2007.zip Open and save these files inside your POPGROUPSysfiles folder; this will replace some existing files of the same name.
The new program files provided also fix one bug and provide an enhancement to the reporter:
HHDwel and LFJobs skeletons now provide sufficient years to accommodate the maximum forecast horizon.
The forecast-reports output file now remembers the last user-chosen age groups which can be edited rather than reverting to a blank grid when that option is chosen for a second time.
POPGROUP. The migration profile option (manual section 3.2.6) was introduced in Version 2. Users of version 3 distributed before July 2006 require an updated program file available from firstname.lastname@example.org. NB This has since been incorporated into module POPGROUPforecasts_program21.xla.
HOUSEGROUP. A new routine GetGovtHHData uploads data from government household projections. Files for users of version 3 distributed before July 2006 are available here. Users since July 2006 have this facility included, in HOUSEGROUP_v31.
9th September 2005
These two fixes are not necessary to run the software except in the circumstances stated. However, if you received POPGROUP or HOUSEGROUP before 9th September 2005 it is advisable to download the files in order to update your software to the most complete capabilities.
HOUSEGROUP: when setting up a model with the full age detail for household forecasts and specifying the population not in households as a percentage, you need this file. Save it over the file of the same name in your 'HHSysfiles' directory:
If you have already created the model with full age detail and need this fix, you will also need to contact POPGROUP for advice: email@example.com
