CCSR's ESRC quota studentships

We have Five ESRC PhD studentships to award for programmes commencing in September 2009. These prestigious awards are available to UK and EU citizens* and comprise full-fees, a £750 annual research training support grant and a non-taxable annual stipend of up to £15,300**. Applicants can apply for one of two types of award depending on their qualifications and experience:

1+3 awards are four year awards which combine a Masters and PhD and are aimed at applicants without a recognised Research Training masters degree. Successful applicants will take CCSRs MSc in Social Research Methods and Statistics followed by three years full-time study for a PhD.

+ 3 awards are three year awards for students intending to study for their PhD only. Applicants must have already gained suitable research training (normally by completing an ESRC recognised Research Training Masters degree).

How to apply

The deadline for receiving applications is March 31st 2009

Those interested in applying can in the first instance contact CCSR's executive adminstrator Margaret Martin.

For 1+3 Awards: Applicants should complete:

1. A University application form, which can be completed on-line.

2.   Nominated applicants will also need to complete an ESRC nomination form - CCSR will liaise with applicants over this.

3. A 2 page supporting letter (providing details of you motivation and suitability for a PhD and an outline of the research questions or themes you would like to work on)

For +3 Awards: Applicants should complete:

1. A University application form, which can be completed on-line.

2. Nominated applicants will also need to complete an ESRC nomination form - CCSR will liaise with applicants over this.

Applicants for a +3 award are required to submit a two page PHD research proposal with their university application. Applicants should contact a potential supervisor to discuss the research proposal. These can be identified by clicking the links in the suggested research areas above or by reference to the CCSR staff page

Applicants can apply for studentships on a full or part-time basis.
