Professional Society

The International Society fo Social Network Analysis (INSNA) is an active professional society. It organises an annual meeting, the Sunbelt International Social Network Conference, and is celebrating its quarter century next year. There is a wealth of resources on social networks at INSNA site including the SOCNET mailing list, softwares, people active in social network analysis, and frequently asked questions on social networks.

Journal

Methodological developments and applications of social network analysis are reported in a wide range of journals across the sciences. However, three that are often cited are listed here with brief descriptions in their own words.

Social Networks Social Networks is an interdisciplinary and international quarterly. It provides a common forum for representatives of anthropology, sociology, history, social psychology, political science, human geography, biology, economics, communications science and other disciplines who share an interest in the study of the structure of human relations and associations that may be expressed in network form. It publishes both theoretical and substantive papers. Critical reviews of major theoretical or methodological approaches using the notion of networks in the analysis of human behavior are also included, as are reviews of recent books dealing with social networks and social structure.

Journal of Mathematical Sociology This journal publishes articles in all areas of mathematical sociology. It also welcomes papers in areas of mutual interest to sociologists and other social and behavioral scientists, and papers which may encourage fruitful connections between sociology and other disciplines.

Journal of Social Structure The Journal of Social Structure (JoSS) is an electronic journal of the International Network for Social Network Analysis (INSNA). It is designed to facilitate timely dissemination of state-of-the-art results in the interdisciplinary research area of social structure. It publishes empirical, theoretical and methodological articles.

Bibliography

Software

Both Pajek and UCINET have been mentioned in this material, but more are available and the list at INSNA site is always a good place to start. Explore both Pajek and UCINET sites for additional materials such as manuals, examples and network data.
