Aims and Objectives

  • To provide practical support, training and information in the use of software programs designed to assist qualitative data analysis;
  • To provide various resources and platforms for debate concerning methodological and epistemological issues arising from the use of such software packages;
  • Seminars, training workshops and events run throughout the year covering various aspects of different CAQDAS software packages - including ATLAS.ti, MAXqda, QSR NVivo, QSR N6, The Ethnograph, QUALRUS.

Online Resources

  • Advisory Helpline: Contact Ann Lewins or Christina Silver for phone / email help and information;
  • CAQDAS Bibliography: Frequently updated bibliography concerning qualitative software data analysis - direct links to several freely available articles;
  • Web Links to other resources: General Resources, Software Developer and Contact Sites, Freeware Software, Online Articles, Bibliography;
  • Stop Press!: News, New Software, Free Upgrades;
  • Forthcoming Events List: Seminars and Workshops;

Special Customised Events

Special events held in Guildford or at your Institution can be organised and tailored to meet your group or project-specific needs. The format and content of these sessions vary according to your specific needs. All options include supporting documentation.

Software training in three stages

  • Software Planning Seminars - free interactive introductions to several software programs aimed at those who may not yet have decided which CAQDAS package to use. Seminars are held at Surrey and in different locations around the UK throughout the year
  • Introductory Workshops - full-day intensive workshops offer a thorough introduction to a specific software package, aiming to get the researcher started with the software and to familiarise with early usage tools, whilst also enabling some understanding of how the software will be useful in the long term. Each course is accompanied by full step-by-step documentation
  • Follow-up workshops - full-day project-oriented workshops in Atlas.ti, N6 and NVivo are for intermediate and advanced level users and focus on the specific project needs of participants. Tutors make specific preparations for individual needs/requests
