Longitudinal data are
important for many social science disciplines as such data facilitates
the investigation of empirical research questions relating to social
change and social stability. Such investigations are not possible
with cross-sectional data. At the current time there is a shortage
of social scientists with skills appropriate for longitudinal data
analysis. In the UK there is an increasing number of large-scale
longitudinal datasets, and currently most remain under-analysed.

This project will develop a three-day
introductory workshop/seminar in the area of longitudinal data analysis
in the social sciences. This will be delivered in Scotland, England
and Wales. The workshop/ seminar will be made available as a set
of computer based online training resources. The online materials
and the workshop/seminars will make a direct contribution to enhancing
methodological knowledge and skills in the area of longitudinal
data analysis.
The work will be based on a collaborative set of arrangements
between Applied Social Science, Scotecon (Stirling University) and
the Longitudinal Studies Centre - Scotland (St Andrews University).
The Centre For E-Learning Development will provide the specialist
computing and information technology knowledge and expertise. |
