New directions in multidimensional analysis

2:30 - 5:30

New directions in multidimensional analysis: Combinatorial Data Analysis -- Visualization of Data -- Data-Mining
Tony Coxon, University of Edinburgh

New terminology, but these newer approaches depend on older-established Cluster Analysis, Multidimensional Scaling, Correspondence Analysis - even Factor Analysis. These families of models have developed rapidly in recent years and have been generalised to new data, new models, new integrations of procedures, and in text/qualitative analysis as much as in quantitative analysis. In this section we shall review these developments, look at purpose built and package software and applications across the social sciences. We also argue that they are as central to methods training as is the more familiar General Linear Model.
