Title: Introduction to Bayesian methods and their application in social and health sciences

Organiser: Nicky Best, Imperial College

Aims of session: This session will provide an introduction to the ideas behind Bayesian statistical inference and illustrate some of the potential benefits of using a Bayesian approach in a range of challenging applications.

Format: Tutorial-style introductory session, followed by three illustrative seminar talks.

Level: This session assumes familiarity with standard statistical methods, including regression and generalised linear regression, but no previous knowledge of Bayesian methods is needed (participants with experience of Bayesian methods may wish to skip the first part of the session).
