MIKE SAVAGE

Mike Savage is Professor of Sociology at the University of Manchester, where he is Director of the ESRC Centre for Research on Socio-cultural Change (CRESC). His research is in historical sociology, stratification and urban sociology. His project ‘Cultural Capital and Social Exclusion’ (with Tony Bennett, Elizabeth Silva and Alan Warde) is a mixed method study incorporating a national survey, focus groups and qualitative interviews, which charts people’s cultural tastes and participation in the fields of music, reading, eating out, television and cinema, and the visual arts. The book of the project, ‘Culture and Class after Distinction’ will be completed early in 2008.
