Notes

Variables detailing the National Statistics Socio-Economic classification (NS-SEC) have been revised for the second edition of the dataset - previous datasets contained errors which incorrectly attributed NS-SEC in a small number of cases. The variables affected are NSECM (minor group), NSECMMJ (major group) and SUPVIS (supervisory status).
Principal effects of the correction are as follows: (i) Some self-employed cases are now correctly classified as NSEC major group 4 'small employers and own account workers'

(ii) Some cases which were incorrectly attributed to NSEC major groups 1 to 7 are now correctly classified in NSEC major group 8 'never worked, unemployed and not elsewhere classified'

(iii) The majority of cases which were previously classified in NSEC minor group 17 'not classifiable for other reasons' are now correctly classified in minor group 16 'not classified or inadequately stated'
