This page allows you to search for information on variables contained in over 550 ESDS Government datasets,
The search engine uses the text in question wording, variable and value labels.
This tool can be used to identify whether a specific topic is covered,
in which survey a particular question is asked, or if a given question is asked
across a number of years of the same survey.
Searches retrieve results for each relevant dataset, giving information on the distribution of variables found and any additional
information available. The Information and Download link presented with the results takes you to the ESDS Access pages accompanying a
particular survey. Searches can be made across all supported datasets or by selecting specific datasets from the search menu.
The search facility is still under development but is at
the stage where user feedback is very helpful. Current
limitations are:
When searching you may wish to use common abbreviations
for words (govt for government) if you don't get results
you're expecting. This is because the survey
documentation has used these abbreviations
The British Crime Survey, along with all
Special Licensed datasets are currently excluded from this system.
